The School of Fashion and Textiles at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University recently hosted Mr. Stafford Lau, Director of Prosperity Textile (H.K.) Ltd, for an engaging guest lecture titled Journey Driving to Sustainable Digital Fashion, delivered to students of the MA in Sustainable Fashion and Innovation programme. As a global leader in innovative and sustainable denim manufacturing, Prosperity Textiles is at the forefront of transforming the fashion industry through technology and environmental responsibility.
Mr. Stafford Lau introduced Prosperity Textile’s Digital Denim Platform, an advanced system combining AI trend forecasting and 3D design tools to streamline denim production. These technologies allow designers to instantly visualize garments, adjust patterns in real time, and reduce reliance on physical samples — saving both time and resources. Digitizing the workflow helps significantly lower water and electricity usage, addressing key environmental challenges in textile manufacturing. This approach also enabled faster market response and reduced the risk of overproduction, contributing to a more sustainable fashion ecosystem.
Mr. Lau also introduced Cooltrans Print Denim, showcasing garments made using this innovative technique. Students were invited to guess which pieces were made from real denim and compare their effects and textures — highlighting how advanced technologies can replicate traditional aesthetics while improving sustainability.
The lecture encouraged students to look beyond conventional approaches and explore how technology can shape the future of fashion. Mr. Lau’s presentation demonstrated that innovation drives smarter, faster, and more sustainable practices. Students left with a renewed perspective on how embracing new tools and ideas can lead to meaningful change across the industry.
