SFT Joins Fung Retailing Group to Promote Sustainable Fashion

Represented by Prof Erin Cho, Dean and Limin Endowed Professor in Integrated Strategics and Leadership in Fashion, the School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fung Retailing Group at the Opening Ceremony of Li & Fung Sustainable Fashion Week in Shanghai on 13 August 2024. This partnership aims to advance sustainable fashion and commercialize research on new functional fabrics in collaboration with mainland companies in Minhang District, Shanghai.

Additionally, the “Fashion Tech Summit: Sustainability as a Competitive Advantage” was held on 15 August, organized by Li & Fung and supported by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Innovation Node and the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute.

A member of the Advisory Committee of SFT, Mr Roger Chan, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Technology Officer of Cobalt Fashion (Hong Kong) Limited, participated as a panelist. He, along with other industry leaders, shared insights on successful technology-driven carbon emission reduction examples.

The summit explored the latest advancements in technology and its role in driving sustainability in the fashion industry. Speakers highlighted how companies have effectively utilized sustainability as a business strategy, aiming to make a positive impact on the future of fashion. The event brought together over 200 leaders from various sectors, including fashion, finance, academia, and environmental organizations, to discuss the convergence of sustainability and technology.
