Organized by Redress, the School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) arranged an educational exhibition tour for students of the MA in Sustainable Fashion and Innovation (SFI) programme. Held at the Redress Design Award 2025 Finalists Exhibition in Cityplaza, Hong Kong, the guided visit welcomed around 20 postgraduate participants. Through this experience, students gained first-hand exposure to pioneering sustainable fashion practices and circular design principles that are actively shaping the future of the industry.
The Redress Design Award, the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, challenges emerging designers to apply circular design strategies that reduce waste and promote resource efficiency. Following the global grand final, this exhibition showcased collections from the ten 2025 finalists and three Hong Kong-based alumni, highlighting creative approaches to sustainable materials, zero-waste patternmaking, and upcycling.
Redefining Fashion Through Circular Design
During the guided tour, Redress Education Manager introduced students to the organization’s mission of accelerating the transition toward a circular fashion system through education and collaboration. By walking through the finalists’ collections, students observed how designers are rethinking material sourcing, garment construction, and product lifecycle management to minimize environmental impact.
The exhibition demonstrated the aesthetic possibilities of sustainable fashion. Students were encouraged to consider how research, technology, and creativity intersect to build a more responsible fashion industry.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
For students who are pursuing the MASFI programme, this visit provided an immersive extension of classroom learning. Seeing real-world applications of circular fashion principles allowed them to connect theoretical concepts with tangible practices and to understand the complexity of implementing sustainability across the fashion value chain.
Participants reflected on how the exhibition deepened their understanding of global sustainability challenges and inspired them to explore new directions in their own academic and professional work.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Sustainable Innovators
The Redress Design Award exhibition exemplified how creative design can align aesthetics with responsibility. By showcasing diverse approaches—from zero-waste cutting to material regeneration—it underscored the importance of collaboration among designers, educators, and consumers in advancing a sustainable future for fashion.
SFT extends sincere appreciation to Redress for hosting this meaningful and educational experience, which continues to inspire students to pursue innovation, sustainability, and circularity within their future careers in fashion and textiles.
